Zusammenfassung

1965 beschrieben Gold und Freedman ein zunächst als kolonkarzinomspezifisch angesehenes Tumorantigen [1], das später auch in Extrakten anderer gastrointestinaler Karzinome sowie in Extrakten embryonaler entodermaler Organe, wie Darm, Leber und Pankreas gefunden wurde [2]. Wegen dieses Vorkommens wurde das Antigen „karzinoembryonales Antigen“ (CEA) genannt [2]. Spätere Untersuchungen mit empfindlicheren Methoden zeigten CEA jedoch auch in normalen entodermalen Organen des Erwachsenen, wenn auch nur in niedrigsten Konzentrationen [3, 4].
