Zusammenfassung

Die chronische Hepatitis wurde aufgrund bioptischer Untersuchungen von Kalk 1947 erstmalig beschrieben. In den folgenden Jahren gelang es nicht, den Begriff „chronische Hepatitis“ für eine bestimmte Verlaufsform einer chronisch-entzündlichen Lebererkrankung mit definierten Kriterien einzusetzen. In den meisten Publikationen kam eine mehr oder weniger individuelle Auffassung vom Krankheitsbild der chronischen Hepatitis zum Ausdruck, wobei Ätiologie, Klinik und Morphologie jeweils eine unterschiedliche Wertung erhielten. Im angloamerikanischen Schrifttum wurde die Bezeichnung „chronische Hepatitis“ zunächst ganz abgelehnt und dafür als Synonym „Leberzirrhose“ verwendet. Heute ist der Krankheitsbegriff chronische Hepatitis allgemein anerkannt. Vier ätiopathogenetisch verschiedene Verlaufsformen sind klinisch von besonderer Bedeutung (Abb. 1). Auf sie soll im folgenden eingegangen werden.
