Zusammenfassung
Viele Befunde weisen darauf hin, daß Patienten mit einer erstmals im höheren Lebensalter auftretenden Depression als nosologische Subgruppe innerhalb der affektiven Erkrankungen zu betrachten sind (6). So besitzen Familienmitglieder von Spätdepressiven (Ersterkrankungsalter >50 Jahre) kein erhöhtes Morbiditäts-risiko für affektive Erkrankungen, was auf eine geringere Bedeutung der genetischen Prädisposition bei dieser Patientengruppe hinweist (3). Neuropathologische Studien legen nahe, daß strukturelle zerebrale Veränderungen bei älteren depres-siven Patienten häufig sind (2), was als Hinweis auf das Vorliegen eines „organi-schen” Faktors bei der Entstehung der Sätdepression gewertet werden kann.
