Zusammenfassung
Seit dem Altertum ist die Mariendistel (Silybum marianum) als Heilpflanze bekannt. Verschiedene Autoren des 16. Jahrhunderts berichten über die Wirksamkeit ihres Extraktes bei chronischem Leberleiden. Erste Mitteilungen über die hepatoprotektive Wirkung der Substanz beruhen auf „Versuchen zum Schutz gegen leberschädigende Gifte“ an tierexperimentiellen Modellen [4].
