Zusammenfassung
Die medizinische Wissenschaft hat in den letzten 40 Jahren viele Fortschritte gemacht, und der Name Framingham ist untrennbar damit verbunden. Durch Lanzeitbeobachtung von Bewohnern einer Kleinstadt wurden die kardiovaskulären Risikofaktoren entdeckt, in erster Linie Fettstoffwechselstörungen, hoher Blutdruck und Zigarettenrauchen. Eine nicht mehr überschaubare Anzahl von Publikationen befaßt sich mit diesen Risikofaktoren, auch mit der Hypertonie.
