Zusammenfassung
Nach Kaplan und Cassel (7) haben global zwei verschiedene psychosoziale Prozesse möglichen Einfluß auf die Ätiologie von Krankheitsprozessen (nicht als pathogenetische, sondern eher als prädisponierende Faktoren zu sehen):
Zum einen sind dies belastende oder streßinduzierende Faktoren, die die psychophysische Gesamtkonstitution des Menschen verletzlicher machen, zum anderen protektive psychosoziale Faktoren, die, als Puffer zwischen dem Organismus und potentiellen noxischen Stimuli (inklusive psychosozialen Stressoren), mögliche psychische oder somatische Beeinträchtigungen zu reduzieren, dienen können (Puffer-Hypothese).
