Zusammenfassung
Die Aorta ist der Hauptstamm des arteriellen Systems, der oxygeniertes Blut vom Herzen zum Gewebe transportiert. Nachdem sie den Thorax durchquert hat, gelangt sie durch den hinteren Teil des Zwerchfells ins Abdomen, wo sie retroperitoneal vor der Wirbelsäule etwas links neben der Medianebene nach kaudal verläuft. Etwa 1–2 cm unterhalb des Nabels teilt sie sich in die Aa. iliacae communes, die durch das Becken nach kaudal, lateral und posterior ziehen. Mitten im Becken teilen sie sich beidseits in die Aa. iliacae internae, die die Beckenorgane mit Blut versorgen, und die Aa. iliacae externae, die die untere Extremität versorgen. Die Größe der abdominalen Aorta ist abhängig von der Größe des Patienten. Normalerweise beträgt ihr Durchmesser kranial nicht mehr als 3 cm und kaudal nach Abgang der großen abdominalen Äste nicht mehr als 2 cm.
