Zusammenfassung
Vor zwanzig Jahren hat an dieser Stelle Max Schneider in seinem einleitenden Referat zur Durchblutung und Sauerstoffversorgung des Gehirns die Frage nach der Regulation der Gehirndurchblutung in den Mittelpunkt gestellt. Nicht lange vor der damaligen Tagung, nämlich 1948, hatten Kety und Schmidt die Stickoxydulmethode entwickelt. Die Fortschritte in der Kenntnis der Regulationsvorgänge basierten damals zum großen Teil auf den mit dieser Meßmethode gewonnenen Erkenntnissen. Als entscheidende Faktoren für die Höhe der Durchblutung nannte Schneider 1953:

die Höhe des arteriovenösen Druckgefälles,

der CO2-Druck in Blut und Gewebe,

3.
den O2-Druck in Blut und Gewebe und

4.
die Viskosität des Blutes (Noell 1944a, 1944b, Noell und Schneider 1942a, 1942b, 1944).
