Abstract

The first quantitative studies by Rose on the amino acid requirements of man where completed less than 20 years ago (Rose et al., 1955). Rose was careful to point out the considerable Variation that existed in the requirement for individual amino acids among different individuals; however, the considerable difficulties encountered in carrying out such studies in human subjects tended to obscure possible variations in requirement so that the Rose values came to be accepted by many as absolute entities.
