Zusammenfassung

Nach den Schätzungen der World Health Organisation waren Ende 1996 weltweit 22,6 Mio. Erwachsene und Kinder HIV-infiziert. Es wird von einem Anteil von 8,4 Mio. Aids-Fällen, davon 1,7 Mio. Kindern ausgegangen. Bis zum Jahr 2000 wird weltweit mit über 40 Mio. Infizierten gerechnet; darunter werden 10 Mio. Kinder sein, die durch die Mutter mit HIV infiziert wurden. Über 90 % dieser Betroffenen werden in den sog. Entwicklungsländern leben. Dies läßt in nächster Zukunft schwerwiegende gesundheitspolitische Probleme befürchten, denen in Entwicklungsländern mit ohnehin geringen Resourcen der Gesundheitsversorgung kaum adäquat begegnet werden kann.
