Die Grundlage der modernen Kolondiagnostik sind die endoskopischen Methoden, ggf. mit Biopsie. Die elektive Röntgenuntersuchung mit Kontrastmittel spielt nur noch selten eine Rolle (z. B. Darstellung des proximalen Kolons bei koloskopisch nicht überwindbarer Stenose).
