Abstract

When a conducting fluid moves in a magnetic field, additional forces acting on the fluid particles arise. On the other hand, electric currents showing up in a moving fluid change the external magnetic field. The interaction of a fluid velocity field and a magnetic field causes some pecularities of fluid motion and complicates a description of this motion considerably. In this chapter we turn to magnetohydrodynamics—the branch of science which provides us with such a description when the medium is assumed to be continuous.
