Abstract

Let us start with a Lagrangian density \( \mathcal{L}\) = \( \mathcal{L}\) (φ, ∂ µ , φ) where the φ is a scalar field. We write φ µ for the space-time derivative. We may have a set of independent fields φi and their derivatives φ i µ . where i runs over the field indices when there are more than one field. Sometimes we will drop this index i.
