Novel Spectroscopy of Spatially Confined Acoustic Phonons in Nanometer Scale Structures

Abstract

In this paper we describe a novel spectroscopy of one-dimensional acoustic modes in narrow Au-Pd wires deposited on silicon substrates. The spectroscopy is based on electron heating measurements in which the low temperature electrical resistance of the wires is measured as a function of an applied electric field.
