Picosecond Optics Measurements of the Acoustic Impedance of Water at Frequencies up to 280 GHz

Abstract

We report the first ultrasonic measurements of the acoustic impedance of water at frequencies as high as 280 GHz. We describe the picosecond optical technique and present preliminary results at 25 C for the reflection coefficient of bismuth/water interfaces as a function of frequency.
