Microwave Photoconductivity of a Two-Dimensional Electron System at Low Landau Level Filling Factors

Abstract

We have studied the microwave (MW) response of the 2DES in AlGaAs/GaAs at low filling factors by measuring the photoconductivity at a frequency of 39GHz and at T=0.35K. The response is significantly different at different filling factors (v = 1/3:FQHE, v = 0.15:“Wigner solid”) as observed in the dependence on MW power P (∼ P 1/2 and ∼ P, resp.). Moreover, compared with the modulation frequency used (1.7Hz) there exists a slow and a fast component of the response in the “Wigner solid” regime, the slow one being absent in the FQHE.
