Abstract

Two examples of recent theoretical works are reviewed which have been done for the purpose of understanding the relationship between the bulk Hall current picture and edge current picture of the quantum Hall effect. The first example is on the localization in quantum wires, which gives information on mixing of edge states with bulk states and on the edge-state wavefunction inside the wire. As the second example, the transmission probability of edge states is calculated and its energy and size dependence is shown to be determined by localization of bulk Landau states.
