Abstract

In turbulent air, the refractive index has a fluctuation of the order of magnitude 10-6 and the correlation distance of several meters. Therefore, the medium can be assumed to be subject to Gaussian statistics in most cases, fulfilling the condition described in Sect. 1.3. Also, the forward scattering approximation is possible in the case of light wave propagation through air where the wave is scattered mostly in the forward direction. This enables us to write the moment equations of wave functions, as treated by various authors [7.1–6], in a form similar to the Schrödinger equation in many body problems, and to utilize some of the operator methods introduced therein to obtain the solutions.
