Abstract
The importance of thermometry (a) to monitor and control hyperthermia treatments and (b) to provide the quantitative information needed to develop prognostic parameters to aid planning and dosimetry cannot be overstated. Currently we must resort to the use of invasive probes to obtain the necessary temperature data. Several invasive thermometry techniques and practices have been developed for use in clinical hyperthermia but each is subject to one or more sources of artefact, and care is needed to ensure good practice and a high quality of thermometry (Cetas 1990; Samulski and Fessenden 1990).
