Review of Intracavitary Hyperthermia Techniques

  • Chapter

Part of the book series: Medical Radiology ((Med Radiol Radiat Oncol))

Abstract

Intracavitary hyperthermia is one of three modalities which come under the heading of internal hyperthermia. The other two modalities are interstitial and perfusional hyperthermia. Internal hyperthermia in oncology and especially intracavitary hyperthermia is often combined with radiotherapy in the form of brachytherapy. As in brachytherapy, the aim with intracavitary hyperthermia is to limit the treatment to only the tumor volume and thereby to spare normal tissue surrounding the tumor.
