Abstract

In contrast to the limiting problem of the scattering of a plane acoustic wave at normal incidence, the problem of an obliquely incident wave has not been investigated in detail. The formulation of the problem and its solution in the Rayleigh series form using the eigenfunctions is given in [11.1] (see Chap. 1). There the form function was computed at various angles of incidence (see Fig. 1.2). In [11.2], for the analysis of the peripheral waves that propagate along helical paths over the cylinder surface, the procedure of the resonance scattering theory has been used, and formulae are presented for the calculation of the critical entrance-reradiation angles, resonance frequencies, magnitudes and Q factors. There, a qualitative view of the dispersion curves of the phase velocities is presented. In a series of papers [11.3–5] the observation of supplementary (guided) waves that propagate along helical paths has been described and their behavior has been interpreted.
