Abstract

From single-mode to multimode operation, the CO2 laser with a saturable absorber displays a variety of phenomena which provide a large basis of experimental facts illustrating the power of the concepts of nonlinear dynamics. Recent experiments on spatiotemporal dynamics confirm once more the efficiency of the various methods introduced by this new approach.
