Abstract
This paper explains the key factors which play essential roles in determining (i) the multiplet state of CUO6 in hole-doped La2CuO4 or that of CuO4 in electron-doped Nd2CuO4, (ii) the mechanism of superconductivity and (iii) the normal state properties of the above cuprate superconductors.
