Abstract

The Josephson effect is briefly described and is shown to result in properties of superconducting loops containing one or more weak links which are periodic in magnetic flux in units of the flux quantum. The modes of operation of rf and dc SQUIDs are briefly described and an assessment is made of the current performance of liquid nitrogen cooled HTC SQUIDs.
