Abstract

We present the microscopic theory of Luttinger liquid for correlated electron systems in one dimension. Our description is based on conformai field theory and the Bethe-ansatz solution. Exact critical exponents for various correlation functions are obtained for two typical examples of the Luttinger liquid: the Hubbard model and the t-J model. We discuss the universal properties of the Luttinger liquid.
