Abstract

Photoinduced picosecond absorption spectra of phenylated polyphenylene vinylenes were observed in the intra-gap region. The non-exponential time decay alters with wavelength. The time behaviour of the transient spectra will be explained by two absorbing quasiparticles of different kinetic behaviour, polarons and bipolarons. Generation and recombination of these absorbers will be described by a rate equation system. A numerical simulation of the time dependent absorption has been performed and compared with experiment. The superposition of both polarons and bipolarons in the transient spectra was analyzed quantitatively by comparison with experimental results.
