Die Literatur zur Knorpeltransplantation ist durch ihre Vielzahl und Vielfalt an experimentellen Konzepten, Techniken und klinischen Berichten gekennzeichnet. Dies ist auf eine Reihe von besonderen Umständen zurückzuführen, von denen an dieser Stelle nur einige zu nennen sind.
