Abstract
This paper is concerned with heat losses from flames by radiation. In particular, it discusses the importance of these losses and their role in some unusual phenomena and structures that have been observed in combustion under microgravity conditions. These are ‘self-extinguishing flames’ (SEFs) and ‘flame-balls’/flame-strings’.
