Functional Properties of Discoidal Apoprotein/Phospholipid Complexes: Cholesterol Efflux from Macrophages and Conversion by Lecithin-Cholesterol Acyl Transferase

  • Conference paper

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((ASIH,volume 73))

Abstract

Cholesterol esters loaded macrophages or “foam cells” have been identified in early atherosclerotic lesions (Ross 1990). and can be generated “in vitro” by incubation of macrophages with chemically modified low density lipoproteins (LDL) (Brown and Goldstein 1983).
