Abstract

Cancer of the prostate constitutes a significant health problem. In Denmark prostatic cancer is the third leading cause of death from cancer in men, following lung and colorectal cancer [14,28]. The incidence and mortality have increased significantly over the last four decades [7]. In part, this trend may be explained by better diagnostic capabilities and improved registration, but data from other Nordic countries and international reports [41] support a true increase in incidence of the disease.
