Some Comments on the Use of Mixed Bundles of Smooth and Enhanced Tubes in Reboilers

  • Conference paper
Design and Operation of Heat Exchangers

Part of the book series: EUROTHERM Seminars ((EUROTHERM,volume 18))

Summary

A theoretical study of mixed HIGHFLUX/smooth and LOWFIN/smooth tube bundles boiling R113 at atmospheric pressure is described. A circulation model adapted from that developed by Palen and Yang and based on data obtained from an experimental smooth tubed boiler in the laboratory was used in the study. Curves of bundle tubing cost versus proportion of enhanced tube rows are drawn for different enhanced: smooth tube unit cost ratios. It is concluded that there is no cost advantage to be gained from employing mixed bundles of smooth and enhanced tubes.
