Separation of Flow Around a Circular Cylinder at Moderate Re-Numbers
An investigation was carried out concerning the position of the separation point at a circular cylinder. The experiments were made in a low speed tunnel covering the Reynolds number range between Re = 1 000 and 10 000. Great care was taken to achieve two-dimensional flow conditions inside the test section. The results were in good agreement with those presented in the literature and a part of them filled the rarely investigated range at moderate Reynolds numbers. On the basis of all these data, empirical equations for the relation between the separation angle φΛ and Re were developed. Furthermore, no oscillating motion of the separation point could be observed, which confirmed the results by other authors.
