Morphology and Mechanisms of Abortion

  • Chapter

Abstract

Chorion villous sampling in the first trimester of pregnancy is associated with a low (7%) rate of losses [1, 2], probably not different from that occurring spontaneously in the general population after 9 weeks of gestation. That such an invasive procedure has so few consequences is surprising (see Chaps. 23, 25), but quite in keeping with the old concept that normal pregnancies are securely tight up to term.
