Soziale Isolation, psychische Erkrankung und Altersverlauf. Eine epidemiologische Untersuchung

Zusammenfassung

Seit Durkheim (1973) sind die sich überschneidenden Konzepte Anomie, Ent fremdung und soziale Isolation immer wieder als Variablen genannt worden, die den Ausbruch einer seelischen Krise oder einer psychischen Krankheit erklären könnten. So wurden beispielsweise für Suizid (Sainsbury 1955) sowie für die Behandlungsinzidenz von Schizophrenie (Faris u. Dunham 1939) Zusammenhänge mit stadtökologischen Indizes für soziale Isolation festgestellt. Auch die geronto-psychiatrische Forschung hat dieser Variablen Aufmerksamkeit gewidmet, da soziale Isolation von Sozialwissenschaftlern als „ein wesentliches Kennzeichen der Lebensbedingungen alter Menschen“ (Parsons 1968) bezeichnet wurde.

Das Forschungsprojekt wurde zuerst als Teil des SFB 116 (Psychiatrische Epidemiologie) an der Universität Heidelberg, später mit Unterstützung des Bundesministeriums für Jugend, Familie und Gesundheit durchgeführt. Wir danken herzlich den ehemaligen Mitarbeitern dieses Projekts, insbesondere Frau Dr. U. Sosna, die das IMSI entwickelte, und Frau Dipl.-Psych. B. Mahnkopf, die für die soziale Untersuchung der Heimbewohner zuständig war.
