Zusammenfassung
Die Elektrokrampftherapie oder Elektrokonvulsionstherapie wurde vor inzwischen mehr als 50 Jahren - auf rein empirischer Basis - ursprünglich zur Therapie der Schizophrenie entwickelt (Kalinowski 1986). Schon bald ließ sich jedoch beobachten, daß sie bei Depressionen, insbesondere solchen endogener Natur, noch wirksamer ist.
