Zusammenfassung

Im Rahmen eines relativ einfachen makroökonomischen Totalmodells wird der Einfluß von Änderungen der Marktstruktur auf die Beschäftigung in verschiedenen Varianten komparativ-statisch untersucht. Insgesamt sind die Ergebnisse zwar nicht eindeutig, doch tendenziell ergeben sich folgende Resultate:

  1. (i)

    Bei Markt räumenden Preisen und Löhnen ist die Konzentration, gemessen an den Marktanteilen, eher negativ mit der Beschäftigung korreliert, sofern das Arbeitsangebot nicht vollkommen unelastisch auf Reallohnänderungen reagiert,

  2. (ii)

    im Falle mengenrestringierter Gleichgewichte ergeben sich positive Korrelationen zwischen Beschäftigung und Marktstruktur,

  3. (iii)

    in Modellen mit Verhandlungen zwischen Gewerkschaften und Firmen sind die Ergebnisse uneindeutig, wenn sich bei Gleichgewicht auf den Produktmärkten die Struktur der Arbeitsmärkte ändert. Jedoch ergibt sich tendenziell (wie unter (i)) eine negative Korrelation zwischen Beschäftigung und Konzentration, sofern Gleichgewicht auf den Produktmärkten unterstellt und dort die Struktur geändert wird. Das Gegenteil tritt ein, wenn (vgl. (ii)) auf den Produktmärkten mengenrestringierte Gleichgewichte bestehen.

Abstract

This paper concerns the comparative-static impact effects of a changing market structure on employment within a simple macroeconomic model. Taken as a whole the results are ambiguous but some tendencies are worth mentioning:

  1. (i)

    With market clearing prices and wages the correlation between employment and concentration — measured by the (identical) market shares of the firms — are, if anything, negative in case of a positive elasticity of labor supply,

  2. (ii)

    in quantity constrained equilibria, however, this correlation is, if anything, positive and

  3. (iii)

    in trade union bargaining models with market clearing product prices the results are ambiguous, if in these models the structure of the labor market changes. With market clearing product prices, however, similar to point (i), the correlation between employment and product market concentration tends to be negative in these models. If, however, the product markets are characterized by quantity constrained equilibria the results are similar to point (ii).
