Zusammenfassung

Der normale Ablauf des Schluckaktes ist für den Gesunden eine Selbstverständlichkeit. Tatsächlich handelt es sich jedoch um einen überaus komplexen Vorgang, an welchem - allein in der unwillkürlichen, pharyngealen Phase - über 25 kleine Muskeln beteiligt sind. Die zeitliche Koordination dieses weniger als 1/2 s dauernden Ablaufes wird von einem eigenen Schluckzentrum in der Medulla oblongata gesteuert.
