Some Questions on Ice and Ice Cover Fracture in Compression

  • Conference paper
Ice-Structure Interaction

Abstract

In the paper there are considered some mechanical models of fracture processes in ice and ice cover on various scales under compression, including the dependence of ice compression strength on its porosity and strain rate, growth of ridges as cracklike faults with overlapping surfaces in ice cover under compression, the possibilities for improving capacity of ships or icebreakers to fracture ice cover in conditions of ice compression.
