Summary

Results of multivariate correlation analysis are presented demonstrating that the strength of grey cast iron can be determined and, moreover, the structure evaluated with a comparatively high accuracy. An account is given of how methods for nondestructive materials characterization should be purposefully developed on the grounds of structure-to-property relationships.
