Abstract

After the St. Louis meeting of ISO/TC184/SC4/WG1 in 1987 a special task was undertaken by the CAD*I project: the development of converters between CAD*I and STEP. The purpose of this development was mainly

  • to demonstrate that the experience gained with CAD*I can indeed be applied to STEP;

  • to prove the high degree of compatibility (similarity) between CAD*I and STEP;

  • to show that with a minimal amount of effort STEP processors can be developed on the basis of existing CAD*I processors and CAD*I software tools;

  • to illustrate how systems which support the CAD*I interface can be linked to the world of STEP-supporting systems, once STEP has become a standard and its processors are implemented.
