Oligodendrocyte Differentiation: Developmental and Functional Subpopulations

  • Conference paper

Part of the book series: NATO ASI Series ((ASIH,volume 43))

Abstract

Oligodendrocytes represent one of the three major cell types in the central nervous system (CNS). Their main function has traditionally been recognized as the production of the myelin components which are added to the plasma membrane of olidogdendrocytes as they coil their processes around axons to form the elaborate multilayered myelin sheath.
