Zusammenfassung

Es ist unzweifelhaft, daß der Ersatz von Herzklappen an Patienten mit schweren Herzklappenkrankheiten die Lebenserwartung entschieden verlängert und die Qualität des Lebens verbessert [Blackstone et al. 1985; Horstkotte et al. 1983; Minale et al. 1987]. Obschon eine große Anzahl von Patienten mit solchen Implantaten lebt und regelmäßig klinisch kontrolliert wird, gibt es nur spärliche Literatur über Todesursachen nach Autopsie [Colapinto et al. 1971; Joassin et al. 1973a; Joassin et al. 1973b; Roberts et al. 1973; Roberts et al. 1976; Schoen et al. 1983].
