Zusammenfassung
Weltweit werden zur Zeit ca. 250 000 Patienten mit terminaler Niereninsuffizienz durch eine Organersatztherapie erfolgreich behandelt. In der Bundesrepublik Deutschland liegt diese Zahl bei etwa 20 000. Die weit überwiegende Mehrzahl der Patienten wird mit der Hämodialyse behandelt. Alternativen sind Peritonealdialyse und Transplantation.
