In this chapter we will discuss symmetry transformations, in order to introduce the symmetry principles; namely, the invariance properties which the equations of motion of a quantum mechanical system can display with respect to a given symmetry. Although the interest in these transformations already appears in classical physics, it is in quantum physics that they acquire greatest relevance, not only because of the physical characteristics of the problems studied, but also due to the mathematical structure of the theory.
