The Wave Function
In the previous chapter, the abstract formalism of Hilbert space was used to represent the states and observables of a physical system. On occasion, with clarity in mind, we have referred to concrete functional realizations of these spaces [for example, L2(R3) to describe electrons without spin] in which some basic observables have specific representations such as multiplication by the independent variable of the function or -iħ∇, etc.
