Magnetic Interactions in High-Tc Superconductors and Related Oxides

Strong Correlation and Superconductivity

Abstract

Zero-field µ+SR measurements in a ceramic sample of Ba2HoCu3O7 reveal 3D antiferromagnetic order below 5 K and some incoherent magnetic correlations up to 50 K in a decreasing volume fraction of the sample. A change of the magnetic-moment arrangement around 100 mK indicates competition between isotropic and anisotropic exchange interactions. The interpretation of the data also allows for a fairly consistent determination of the µ+-site in Ba2HoCu3O7. Since Ho3+ adopts a singlet ground state, the onset of magnetic order in the superconducting state is not à priori expected.
