Leiomyosarcoma

  • Jean-Noël Bruneton

Abstract

Leiomyosarcomas are malignant tumors that arise from the muscular coat of the alimentary tract, and particularly from the muscularis externa. Sarcomatous degeneration of benign leiomyomas has been postulated, but such occurrences are undoubtedly very rare (Palmer 1948; Shepherd 1950), and most leiomyosarcomas are probably malignant from the outset.
