Abstract

The discussions of the three papers presented at this session focussed on three topics:
  1. 1.

    The significance of tracheal colonization;

     
  2. 2.

    The assessment of illness, and selection of patients for selective decontamination.

     
  3. 3.

    The possibility of reducing colonization by interfering with bacterial adhesion.
