Abstract
The Center for Chemical Process Safety (CCPS) of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) will release a book on reliability data in 1989. The book is titled Guidelines for Process Equipment Reliability Data and is part of a series of safety guidelines published by CCPS. The book was written and published by a task force of AIChE members from industry with the help of Science Applications International Corporation.
In the last few years there has been increasing emphasis on risk reduction in the chemical process industry. This has resulted in an increased use of tools such as quantitative risk analysis which require component reliability. This new CCPS publication will partially fulfill that requirement. Also, the book is intended to act as a resource for any future data collection exercises in the chemical process industry.
The book contains generic reliability data from a wide variety of sources. There are descriptions of those sources (and others) for further reference. Also, there is a section explaining how to collect data and how to convert it to the same format as the guidelines data.
