Abstract
It is well known that specific deformations (shape changes) in sheets of embryonic tissue are critical to normal morphogenesis. Birth defects caused by abnormalities in tissue sheet expansion and shape change include defective lens and retina formation, cleft lip, cleft palate, cardiac septum defects, and spina bifida.
